Focus groups are being held across Staffordshire on and around Dying Matters Awareness Week (13th – 19th May 2013) to start to explore with patients and carers ways in which end of life care can be improved, so that people receive the appropriate support and do not have to face this challenge alone.

Patients throughout East Staffordshire with non- emergency health problems should now find it easier to get an appointment with their GP rather than resort to visiting A&E.

More than 270 extra GP appointments are now being made available each week across the district. It means more people should find it easier to book an appointment to see a family doctor at a time that is convenient.

It is one of a range of initiatives which have been rolled out by GP surgeries in the Burton and Uttoxeter area over the past few months.

Dr Charles Pidsley, Chair of East Staffordshire CCG said: “We have all seen the pressure that hospitals across the country have been coming under in recent days. But we are now providing more ways than ever for people to avoid going to hospital, and especially A&E.
